Note: If ordering a culture in addition to this test, TWO SAMPLES must be collected. Swab specimens MUST be in universal transport media (UTM). Refrigerate. Swab MUST be placed in UTM at time of collection; RN may pool swabs at the time of collection. UTM sample may be shared with Varicella Zoster PCR Qualitative, Swab.

Reject due to: For swabs- collection other than a flocked swab in UTM (e.g. dry swab, ESwab, cotton swab, swab with wooden shaft, calcium alginate swab, etc.).

Description

This test is for the detection of Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 from swab (cutaneous and/or mucocutaneous sources) and CSF. This FDA-cleared DiaSorin Molecular Simplexa™ test is used to quickly and effectively detect HSV infection. HSV 1 & 2 DNA is detected via nucleic acid amplification.
